Worship

The Richmond United Methodist Church uses John Wesley's revised version of The Book of Common Prayer called the Sunday Service of the Methodists. The United Methodist Church has official liturgies for services of Holy Communion, baptism, weddings, funerals, ordination, anointing of the sick with oil, and daily office prayer services, as well as special services for holy days such as Ash Wednesday or Easter Vigil. These services are contained in The United Methodist Hymnal and The United Methodist Book of Worship.

Listening to the reading of Scripture and a sermon based upon the Biblical text is always included in worship service. We follow the Revised Common Lectionary for Sunday Bible readings. Our congregation also uses elements associated with liturgical worship such as candles, a pulpit robe or other vestments on the minister, paraments on the altar-table, banners, liturgical art, the Apostles' Creed, and follow the Christian Calendar.

Our worship service includes a time for response and a prayer time in which people  share concerns and pray with the pastor. This time of response may include celebrations of baptism or confirmation or profession of faith.

The Rchmond United Methodist Church celebrates the sacrament of Holy Communion on a monthly basis and on special services for holy days.
